Meet the Bar Pro Bono Award Winners 2021<\/h3>\n

Rhys Davies and Ben Keith are profiled in Counsel Magazine (April 2022 Edition) as part of a feature on the winners of the Bar Pro Bono Awards, given every year in recognition of outstanding commitment to pro bono work by barristers or chambers. Rhys and Ben were jointly named International Pro Bono Barrister of the year for their work in the case of Ryan Cornelius, a British national who has been arbitrarily detained by the UAE since 2008.<\/p>\n

\n

\u2018We have seen an enormous increase in the last few years in the numbers of individuals who have been subject to some of the worst international criminal law and human rights violations, stranded without any real representation or assistance. We know that from time to time individuals, some of whom have found themselves in the most dire of circumstances, won\u2019t have easy access to lawyers.<\/em><\/p>\n

\n

\u2018It was in those sorts of circumstances that we recognise that it is essential that we were able to commit the time and energy to helping people, whatever their means.’<\/em><\/p>\n
