Ben Keith and Cristian González at the IBA Transnational Crime Conference in Athens
Ben Keith y Cristian González of IHR Advisors join the International Bar Association’s 28th Annual Transnational Crime Conference at the Hotel Grande Bretagne in Athens from 13 to 15 May 2026. The conference is presented by the IBA Business Crime Committee and the IBA Criminal Law Committee, and convenes criminal law practitioners from across the world. This year’s programme turns on the structural pressures facing cross-border criminal justice: artificial intelligence in investigations, the European Public Prosecutor’s expanding reach, and the reshaping of international law-enforcement alliances.
In IHR Advisors, we represent individuals subject to politically motivated Red Notices and Diffusions, defend them in extradition proceedings from London to Tbilisi, and advise on the international law implications of cross-border prosecutions. Practice nowadays implies new challenges that must be discussed.
For example, AI in criminal investigations. Police and prosecutors across several Council of Europe jurisdictions now deploy machine-translation tools, automated transcription and predictive analytics on intercepted communications and seized devices. The defence implications are concrete. Disclosure of training data, audit logs and error rates is rarely volunteered. Where a system has been used for triage and which communications are reviewed at all, the integrity of the entire evidential chain is at stake.
In addition to the AI revolution, we are witnessing the recalibration of law-enforcement alliances. The United States’ retreat from several multilateral cooperation frameworks has accelerated bilateral arrangements between European, Gulf and Asian agencies. For clients facing parallel proceedings in two or three jurisdictions, the practical map of who shares what with whom is being redrawn in real time.
